He has a degree in Anthropology and East Asian Studies and has travelled widely in Thailand India and China studying traditional medicines. He lived in Thailand for some years studying under Lek Chaiya Baan Nit and the Shivagokomarpaj Traditional Medicine Hospital where he also taught courses on traditional massage and herbal medicine.
